Huge. A big fortress full of History and great views.Important to go if you are in Elba
Perfect to walk around.
Visited in the first week of July on a not too hot afternoon (around 28 degrees).
Parking at the port with a short walk you can easily reach the entrance to the fortress. The welcome was excellent and the lady at the entrance explained the route and what we would see with great kindness and patience.
The fortress is entirely outdoors but during the climb there are benches and shaded places to take shelter. However, I recommend bringing fresh water, because the summer heat makes itself felt immediately.
From the walls you can enjoy an excellent 360° view of everything that surrounds Portoferraio.
Don't expect to find a well-kept and perfectly tidy fortress but they are mostly gardens within the walls, even if walking inside places that have made history always has its own charm.
Beautiful panorama full of history that dates back to the doctors… that I personally really like the work done by this Florentine family that extends throughout Tuscany…
Nice place to see the city well from the heights, but a little expensive anyway 7 euros
When we think of Elba we talk more about Napoleonic villas than about this marvelous fortress, however it is very beautiful and important. Full ticket price €5 Reduced €3
Leaflets are issued with the respective explanations of how to navigate the structure.
He gave me a lot. Especially the cell open to the public which gives you an idea of what it meant to go to prison and why everyone got sick because it is very cold and hard. You can stay in the structure all day if you want, there is a refreshment point (it was closed when I visited). There is also a little park for the little ones.
Excellent welcome at the reception in both Italian and English.
Being in the centre, the area has limited traffic 🚫 but the ban begins after 6pm. To be safe, always inform yourself before crossing it.
What can I say. Very very pleasant!! Enchanted by the visit 🎯
An immense fortress, much more than I thought. It is worth a full half day (with good weather, suggested!), to observe the observation points, the splendid view of Portoferraio, as well as the museum set up inside, which includes historical paintings on Portoferraio and the Medici family. We couldn't finish seeing it... We'll be back! The entrance ticket costs 5 euros each.
Beautiful historic fortresses visited on the day of departure together with Forte Falcone. To visit the most beautiful historical monuments of Portoferraio I recommend taking at least a full day. At the top there is a bar where you can have a nice aperitif overlooking the gulf :)
Ticket price is €5.
